Renault UK has announced prices and specifications for its new hot hatch - the Megane Renaultsport 250, which will be available to order from November 1 with deliveries beginning in January.
Two versions are available: the Megane Renaulsport 250 Cup and the Megane Renaultsport 250. The former includes a limited slip differential, uprated suspension, grooved brake discs and 235/40 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres on satin black 18" alloy wheels. None of that appears as standard on the latter non-Cup car, however, it offers a few more creature comforts, while the Cup model gets less equipment to save weight.
Both use a Euo5-compliant 16V 2.0-litre petrol turbo with a maximum power figure of 184kW (247bhp) at 5,500rpm and maximum torque of 340Nm delivered at 3,000rpm. Eighty percent of the torque is available from 1,900rpm. Running the powertrain is a 6-speed manual gearbox with taller ratios and increased precision. Renault says as a result the car will sprint from 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 6.1 seconds. Average C02 emissions are 195g/km while the combined fuel consumption figure is 33.6 mpg.
Other equipment includes front parking sensors, ESP, the Renaultsport Monitor telemetry system, LED daytime running lights and bi-xenon headlights. The exterior kit includes gloss black door mirrors, a frontal F1-style blade on the lower bumper and a gloss black rear diffuser. A total of seven exterior colours are available.
The interior is packed with gadgets such as an RDS radio system, a 6 CD changer, Bluetooth connectivity and a Carminat TomTom satellite navigation system. The non-Cup model offers extras such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, a hands-free card, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers, tinted rear glass, and a tyre pressure monitor.
Prices for the Cup start at £21,995, while the less-hardcore and better-equipped Megane Renaultsport 250 begin at £22.995. If buyers want all the luxuries but with the road-holding of the Cup model, the Cup suspension pack can be specified for an additional £1,950.
