First revealed as a concept car at the 2004 Louis Vuitton Car Elegance Classic in England, the Renault Fluence Concept is finally going to become reality. That’s a long time, right? Renault has announced that it will add the Renault Fluence to its range in autumn 2009. Sellings will start in Turkey, Russia and Romania from this November. Positioned to replace the current Megane sedan, the Renault Fluence gets many features making it standing out as the most attractive car of its class, both in terms of sporting exterior styling and performance.
The Renault Fluence will be available with a wide range of thrifty engines. Initially, there are two petrols and five diesel variants. The top of the line in the petrol segment will be a 2.0-litre variant capable of producing 140hp, coupled with a manual or a CVT transmission. The other one is a 1.6-litre 16V engine with 81kW (110hp). It is mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission.
As for the diesel variants, the top version will be a 110hp model with a dual clutch transmission. The lowest of them has 63kW (85hp) under its belt, followed by a 66kW (90hp) with a diesel particle filter, then a 77kW (105hp) and a 81kW (110hp) with a DPF. All of them are based on the 1.5dCi engine and rated at 119g/km in terms of C02 emissions.
The Fluence has more passenger space than its nearest rivals, a 4.62 metres long, 1.81m wide and 1.48m high. It has a wheelbase of 2.7m. The rear seat has a 60/40 split capability while the interior provides some 23 litres of stowage space.
Safety is taken seriously. The Fluence features a comfortable cabin and a barrage of useful technological aids. ABS, six airbags, electronic stability control and emergency brake assist among others are included.
